Steve Angello: The Beat King Talks His Electric Journey

Humorous Steve Angello discussing EDM evolution and sobriety on stage

Steve Angello, the Swedish turntable maestro, just spilled the tea to Billboard Dance about his solo career, the evolution of dance music, and the future of Swedish House Mafia. Buckle up, we’re about to drop the beat!

The Evolving Magic of Swedish House Mafia

When asked about the long-awaited Swedish House Mafia album, Angello revealed, “We had an album. We tossed it in the return basket and released singles instead. We’re always working on music and when we feel like ‘Okay, this is good enough for us!’, we’ll drop it. There’s always something in the air.

Basically, this strategy shows their commitment to releasing only music that resonates with their souls and not their wallets.

“The walls between subgenres have come down. Any genre can be mixed into dance music. The future’s looking bright!”

Wellness & Sobriety on Tour

Speaking of wellness, Angello shared his incredible 13-year sobriety journey: “I’ve been sober for 13 years. That has helped a lot psychologically. It’s tough when you tour. You have to grab your sleep. The good thing is I’m always surrounded by good folks. If you want to talk about something, you can. You need good people around you. Mentally, it takes a toll more than physically.”

And guess what? DJing is his second nature! He said: “DJing for me is so natural. It’s the time I express myself. For me, it’s home.”

  • Key Point 1: Angello claims mental health is the new black.
  • Key Point 2: He’s surrounded by folks who amplify his happiness.
  • Key Point 3: If DJing is his home, then festival land is his castle!

“At the time when we were about to release those records, the labels weren’t supportive. It was always us testing the crowd reactions.” (And that’s like handing out candy and praying it’s not sour! )
